Electronic Church: by Wayne Jackson

"There are Bible commands and principles that obligate us to 'come together' when we are able to do so, and no “flip of a switch” can satisfy those demands upon able-bodied people..."

While Wayne Jackson's article raises some good issues and some definite concerns facing the Church online, it in many ways is a knee-jerk reaction to a tool that at the time (2001) was not very well understood. I agree with Brother Jackson that there is a tremendous amount of religious error being propagated over the internet. Is the suggestion then that the Lord's church should abandon this wide-reaching tool to the false teachers? Many of our cities are rank with error with denominational churches, community churches, and kooks of all kinds spouting religious non-sense, but we see them as fields to teach in and preach in.

The internet certainly has its dangers. But it also has its benefits and opportunities. One of of every six people on the entire planet have access to the internet and over 75 million Americans go online everyday. They are searching for answers to religious issues and if the Lord's church is not there to provide the answers they will get the wrong answers often times, elsewhere.

1 Timothy 3:15 reminds us the the church is to be the pillar and support of the truth. We need to see the internet as a tool that will allow us do exactly that - literally all over the world.
